What’s new with TAC’s Workforce Development Council

TAC’s Workforce Development Council welcomed 27 attendees to its spring meeting on April 5.

Survey on Professional Development Challenges and Practices

The Council heard a presentation from the Professional Development Committee’s Chair, David Hein, on the results of the committee’s recent survey to better understand professional development challenges and responses in TAC member organizations, focusing on training and knowledge transfer.

Committee updates

The Workforce Development Council received updates from its three committees.

The Education Committee meeting on April 3 attracted 18 participants. They discussed the committee’s 2024 action plan, which includes conference session planning, lunch and learn sessions, and ongoing efforts to support post-secondary education. Meeting participants also held a “teaching and learning spotlight” with presentations by Professor Trevor Hanson and graduate student Madeline Whitehouse from the University of New Brunswick.

The Human Resources Committee meeting on April 2 involved 17 participants who heard a presentation on workforce planning by Heather Langton of the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The committee also discussed the results of last fall’s survey of TAC member organizations on challenges and strategies related to employee recruitment and retention, and planning for upcoming 2024 conference sessions.

The Professional Development Committee meeting on April 4 attracted 20 participants. The committee reviewed the results of its recent survey on challenges and opportunities with professional development in the sector, discussed updates to its work plan, and planned upcoming conference sessions.
