TAC’s Workforce Development Council had 23 attendees at its fall meeting.
Guest presentations
The Council heard presentations from HDR’s Tara Erwin on the Women’s Transportation Seminar and Jennifer Warner Hyman on ITE’s PreK-12 STEM Outreach Committee.
Committee updates
The Council received updates from its three committees.
The Education Committee meeting attracted 12 attendees, who heard about the University of British Columbia’s transportation programs from both teaching and learning perspectives. They also discussed the committee’s work plan, the use of TAC products as teaching tools, and steps to follow up on TAC’s report Developing Highly Qualified Personnel for an Era of Connected and Automated Vehicles.
The Human Resources Committee meeting’s 13 attendees heard a presentation on the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s Belonging Strategy. They also discussed expanding EDI efforts and continuing work to follow up on a survey of employee recruitment and retention issues among TAC member organizations.
The Professional Development Committee meeting attracted 12 attendees. They reviewed findings and lessons from the recent professional development challenges and opportunities survey, made plans for a webinar based on its results, and discussed volunteer projects to support young professional involvement in TAC.
Each committee also reported on its discussion of issues in its domain that involve or impact Indigenous peoples.
