What’s new with TAC’s Mobility Council

TAC’s Mobility Council welcomed 37 attendees to its spring meeting on April 19.

Guest presentation

Prof. Ignacio Tiznado-Aitken (University of Toronto) presented to the Council on the structure and ongoing initiatives of the Mobilizing Justice Research Partnership.

Technical projects

The Council approved a proposal by Nabila Chatur (City of Edmonton) for a new Active Transportation Integrated Committee volunteer project on unsignalized crossings for pedestrians and cyclists.

It also approved the final deliverable of the volunteer Active Transportation Snapshot project, prepared by a working group of the Active Transportation Integrated Committee.

Committee updates

The Mobility Council received updates from its four committees.

The Active Transportation Integrated Committee meeting on April 18 attracted 85 attendees who discussed ongoing design guidance updates and upcoming fall conference sessions. Members also heard presentations from Sabrina Lau-Texier (TransLink) and Brian Patterson (Urban Systems) on British Columbia’s new design guidelines for bus stops adjacent to cycling infrastructure; from Kate Clark (Dalhousie University) on a new research unit on Planning for Equity, Accessibility and Community Health; and from Julie Sawchuk (Sawchuk Accessible Solutions) on simplifying accessibility for wheelchair users.

The Mobility Management Committee meeting on April 15 involved 27 participants and included a presentation from Janet Lo on the development of a micromobility strategy in the City of Toronto. Members also discussed upcoming fall conference sessions and reviewed the progress of working groups on priority topics.

The Transportation Finance Committee meeting on April 16 attracted 17 participants. The committee advanced planning for upcoming conference sessions, reviewed progress on its work plan, and discussed potential new areas of interest.

The Transportation Planning Committee meeting on April 17 attracted 43 participants. The committee reviewed its planned sessions for the fall conference, heard about the progress of its working groups, including the recently formed Modelling User Group, and received roundtable updates from members.
