This is one of several articles profiling the in-person Fall Technical Meetings of TAC’s six councils and their committees that took place September 20-22, 2024.

TAC’s Environment & Climate Change Council had 35 attendees at its fall meeting.

Guest presentations

The Council heard presentations from British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s Mark Traverso on acid rock drainage remediation; Ausenco’s Gabriel Viehweger on creosote pole cleanup; Impact Assessment Agency of Canada’s Mary Nemeth on regulatory initiatives under the Impact Assessment Act; City of Vancouver’s Matt Horne on encouraging investment in EV charging; British Columbia Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy’s Ted Weick on hydrometeorological monitoring; and Nova Scotia Public Work’s Sally Chedraoui on wildlife-vehicle collision mitigation.

Technical projects

The Council continues to solicit funding for a project on assessing and mitigating noise and vibration from transportation.

Committee updates

The Council received updates from its three committees.

The Climate Change Integrated Committee meeting attracted 27 participants who discussed emergency preparedness, data limitation challenges for future planning, and balancing the need to account for climate change with affordability.

The Environmental Issues Committee and Environmental Legislation Committee held a joint meeting with 24 participants. They received a presentation on GHG calculation tools for incentivizing fleet conversions and held a discussion on fish offsetting.

Each committee also reported on its discussion of issues in its domain that involve or impact Indigenous peoples.
