Reinventing Parking Analysis Using Drones and GIS – Courtenay Downtown Parking Study

When the City of Courtenay approached McElhanney to update its Downtown Parking Study, McElhanney deployed a new methodology for collecting parking data using the latest technology that would provide ongoing utility and value to the City beyond the timeframe of the study itself.

This presentation will review the traditional method of parking data collection and outline the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. It will be followed by an overview of the new methodology that McElhanney deployed with the City of Courtenay, demonstrating how leveraging emerging technologies can provide safer, more reliable, and higher granularity parking data.

The approach to blend drone photography, digital imaging software, GIS data handling, open-source machine learning, and transportation planning and engineering principles is a new and innovative way to provide higher-value consulting services to municipal and private sector clients. Overall, this leads to better planning, approvals, community engagement, and investment decisions for urban mobility projects.

From Data to Resilience: The Power of Digital Twins in Transportation Infrastructure

Transportation infrastructure professionals face a range of challenges, from climate change and rapid population growth to workforce shortages. These issues impact the condition, efficiency, and ability to maintain safe and resilient networks. In this context, adopting digital delivery is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity that serves as a vital steppingstone toward creating the ultimate solution—digital twins.

Join us to explore real-world examples of how Bentley solutions are utilized to build digital twins. Starting with open solutions to aggregate data—above and below ground—to provide full infrastructure context; enabling digital delivery to enhance throughput, constructability, and sustainability; and leveraging AI to generate insights into existing conditions for proactive maintenance and improved asset performance.

About the presenter:

Alan Esguerra , Industry Strategist, Transportation, Bentley Systems. Alan tracks industry trends, identifies solution opportunities, and collaborates with the transportation industry and development teams to drive innovation. He has extensive experience with global and national engineering firms, delivering projects from conventional PS&E to 3D models for design and visualization.
