Structural Engineering (Civil)
Description

As a Summer Co-op or Engineering Intern, you will be working with multidisciplinary teams on various types of projects. The depth and dedication of our professional staff enables Egis Canada to offer its clients services from concept to beyond construction and our bridge engineering projects carry a reputation of quality and cost-effectiveness. In this role, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Perform OSIM inspections including bridges, culverts and retaining walls;
- Summarize and document findings into inspection report or Bridge Management System;
- Assist senior staff in engineering design including quantity take-out, cost estimates and working days calculations as needed;
- Assist structural design report or memo writing as needed; and
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
- Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a university degree in Civil Engineering with interests in Structural Engineering;
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- Proficient with AutoCAD (would be considered an asset);
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and time management;
- Ability to work efficiently as a team member;
- Possess a valid driver’s license in Ontario; and
- Must be able to commute to GTA office as required.

Description
We’re looking for aspiring transportation engineers currently enrolled in a civil engineering program who want to experience the breadth of transportation engineering in a 12- to 16-month internship. The successful candidate will rotate through teams with an opportunity to work in traffic engineering, highway design, bridge engineering, bridge inspection, and contract administration. The position will include a mix of fieldwork and office work depending on the season and team.
Candidates’ career experiences may consist of:
- Participation in the delivery of traffic, highway and bridge projects including planning, design, and construction inspection.
- Production of preliminary and detail design drawings.
- Calculations related to traffic engineering, bridge engineering, and highway engineering.
- Working with multi-discipline teams comprising designers, engineers, and specialists.
- Preparation of reports, technical memos, meeting minutes and other project documentation.
- Field investigations related to bridge inspections, highway engineering, and traffic engineering.
- Working safely and observing / working in conformance with GHD’s
- Behaviour-Based Safety culture.
- Completing day-to-day inspections of Highway / Road / Bridge and Sewer / Watermain projects in accordance with client terms of reference and manuals under the supervision of Senior Inspectors and other team members.
- Daily completion of project records / diary entries for construction administration assignments;
- For construction administration assignments, working nights, weekends, extended shifts;
- Working overtime hours as necessary. Work is seasonal in nature and will likely involve greater hours of work in summer than in winter months;
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Enrolled post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for launching a career in transportation engineering.
- Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D,
- MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, MIDAS, and/or SAP2000 would be an asset.
- Familiarity with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, Aimsun, or Vissim would be an asset.
