Friday, June 6, 2014

The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) has won a Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers (CITE) technical award for its Pedestrian Crossing Control Guide – Second Edition (2012).

The Stan Teply Outstanding Technical Project Award was presented to TAC at the 2014 CITE and Ontario Traffic Council Conference on Wednesday, June 4 in Waterloo, Ontario.  This annual award recognizes an outstanding transportation project that has shown significant and proven technical achievement.

The award was created in honour of Dr. Stan Teply, a leader and creator of the Canadian Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections, a key national reference guide on traffic engineering.

TAC’s Award-Winning Publication

TAC’s Pedestrian Crossing Control Guide – Second Edition (2012) provides guidelines on the use of devices for pedestrian crossing control relating to new installations or where existing installations need to be retrofitted. The Guide is primarily intended to augment the information about pedestrian crossing control devices and their applications contained in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada (MUTCDC).

The main objective of this Guide is to promote uniformity across Canada with respect to the approach used in the provision of pedestrian crossing control, while improving road safety for these users.

The Pedestrian Crossing Control Guide (2012) supersedes the Pedestrian Crossing Control Manual, published by TAC in 1998. Priced at $139 for TAC members and $155 for others via the TAC Bookstore, the publication is available in both print and e-book formats.
